United States Test Preparation
PSAT/NMSQT
The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) is administered by College Board and cosponsored by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC). The PSAT/NMSQT is a multiple-choice question (MCQ) test that introduces high school 10th and 11th grade students to the SAT format. The National Merit Scholarship Program, which started in 1955, awards scholarships to students who perform well on the PSAT/NMSQT.
Format
The PSAT/NMSQT contains four (4) multiple-choice question (MCQ) sections:
Reading Test (60 Minutes; 47 Questions; Score Range 8-38)
Writing and Language Test (35 Minutes; 44 Questions; Score Range 8-38)
Math Test-No Calculator (25 Minutes; 17 Questions; Score Range 160-760)
Math Test-Calculator (45 Minutes; 31 Questions; Score Range 160-760)
Evidence-Based Reading and Writing Section Score Range 160-760
Combined Math Section Score Range 160-760
PSAT/NMSQT Score Range 320-1520
Tips for Students
PSAT/NMSQT taken at school by 10th and 11th grade students in the fall
PSAT 10 usually offered at discretion of school in winter and spring for 10th grade students
PSAT 8/9 taken at school by 8th and 9th grade students
PSAT 8/9 usually offered in fall, winter and spring at discretion of school
